Transit
Free school transit
School traffic is one of the most prevalent concerns of our residents. In our community parents spend dozens of hours a year waiting for their turn to drop their kids off, then dozens more to pick them up. Students cut back on sleep to beat the traffic and parents sacrifice work and other responsibilities to wait in lines of cars stretching around multiple blocks.
To give time back to students and parents, we must reduce car traffic congestion. To take cars off the road, one under discussed mode of transportation is our existing bus system. I wrote the pilot policy with direct input from VTA. VTA verified my estimate that it would only cost $20,000 to implement the pilot policy over 6 months and my fellow Commission members at large endorsed the policy.

As your councilmember, I will pursue free bus and light rail access for all students and school staff, starting with a pilot program at Los Gatos High School. This pilot program will enroll all students and staff under the SmartPass system.

How do I know we can do this?
As a Complete Streets and Transportation Commissioner, I designed the pilot policy with direct input from VTA. VTA verified my estimate that it would only cost $20,000 to implement the pilot policy over 6 months and my fellow Commission members at large endorsed the policy.
